  • Atovaquone resistance in dogs is associated with a mutation in the Babesia gibsoni mitochondrial cytochrome b gene, which can occur naturally or arise during treatment. This resistance develops due to a mutation in the CYT b (cytochrome b) gene of B. gibsoni.
